PETROLEUM COATING

Mineral oil

What it is

Refined petroleum — the same base as lamp oil and petroleum jelly — used to glaze candy and dried fruit, release dough from pans, and polish rice. A shine and a slip, nothing your body uses.

Why your biology objects

Petroleum fractions carry two contaminants: MOSH, which bioaccumulates in liver and lymph nodes, and MOAH, the aromatic fraction EFSA judges genotoxic and carcinogenic with no safe threshold. A non-food material doing a cosmetic job.
