What it is
Petroleum-derived colorant. It contributes nothing to the food — its entire job is making the product look more appealing than it is.
Why your biology objects
These pigments are not metabolized as nutrients — they pass through doing decorative work only. The color was added to compensate for the real ingredients (fruit, vegetables) the recipe left out.
